KUALA LUMPUR – The individual who killed D. Tharani called in sick the day she was murdered, said a colleague who declined to be identified.
He said the suspect, 37, said he was not coming in that day as he was on medical leave for two days.
“He called at 12.45pm to tell me this but somehow he turned up at the building and left with Tharani in her car.
“I was shocked when I got the news that she was killed and that he surrendered. I spoke to him about 45 minutes before Tharani was killed,” he said when met at her cremation in Sentul yesterday.
“He worked for the previous company, and when the new joint management board took over, they rehired him.
“What went on that day is for the police to investigate,” he said.
Police believe Tharani, 37, was stabbed in the neck in her car because she refused to marry her attacker.
The suspect had driven to the Damansara police station at about 3pm on Monday to confess his act – with her body in the front seat.
Both were in the car, parked at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara, when she was killed.
The cortege arrived at the cremation site here at around 4.45pm.
Her father was inconsolable as he got out of the hearse and stood in front of Tharani’s coffin.
Other family members were also overcome with grief as her coffin was placed on the pyre before the cremation.
Her family requested for privacy as they mourned. – The Star Online
