JOHOR BARU- A 29-year old man was sentenced to two months jail for and fined RM2,000 by the Johor Baru Magistrate Court for illegal possession of a fake pistol last month.
Magistrate Azureen Sahira Saufee Afandi also ordered Muhamad Faizal Muhamad Hanafi who is self employed to four months jail if he failed to pay the fine.
Muhamad Faizal who admitted guilty to the charge was charged for illegal possession of a fake black pistol in Jalan Syaaban, in Kampung Belantik at around 12.10pm to 12.45pm on April 26 this year.
For the offence, he was convicted under Section 36(1) of the Weapons Act 1960 which carries a maximum one year in jail with up to RM5,000 in fine, upon conviction.
In her mitigation, lawyer Arwa Abdul Rahman who represented the accused pleaded for a lower sentence as her client has two wives and three children.
However, deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Ghazali said the suspect should be sentenced in accordance with the offence which he had committed as well as set as a deterrent to the general public.- New Straits Times
