JOHOR BAHRU – A man who broke into a house was killed in a struggle with the house owner in an incident at Jalan Jenawi 3, Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, near here today.
Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais, in a statement here tonight, said the house owner, aged 32, was also injured in the 2.45 pm incident and was currently being treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
He said the suspect was believed to have broken into the house through a window and then attempted to break down the door of the master bedroom.
“The victim, who was in the house, was threatened with a screw-driver and ordered to surrender all the valuables before he was forced by the suspect to unlock the kitchen door.
“It was then that the victim managed to grab a chopping knife and asked the suspect to return the items he had taken, but the suspect refused and a fight broke out between the two of them,” he said.
Shahurinain said the suspect had 14 previous records, which included for drug-related offences.
Police found a wallet, RM730, a gold ring and a handphone in the suspect’s trouser pocket, he said, adding that the body was sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for post mortem. – BERNAMA
