Man Fails In Appeal To Reduce Sentence For Armed Robbery

IPOH – The High Court here today upheld the 12-year jail sentence on a jobless youth for armed robbery he committed early last year.

On Oct 24 last year, the Sessions Court imposed the punishment, plus five strokes of the cane on Nor Arman Zainal, 40, after he was found guilty of using a machete to rob his victim in front of a house at Laluan Keranji 5, Kampung Dato Ahmad Said Tambahan 3 here around 8am on Jan 8, 2016.

Today, Justice Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali in maintaining the sentence, noted that the appellant was a habitual offender with previous convictions involving drugs, robbery and causing death by negligence.

The judge said the accused who had clearly not repented must be separated from the general public for a long period.
