IPOH – A man was found burnt when his car caught fire after it crashed into a road divider and was hit by another car at KM 321.6 of the North South Expressway near the Tapah exit early today.

Tapah district police chief Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw identified the victim as Lim Chin Teck, 26, from Taiping, who was at the wheel of a Proton Iswara.

He said the victim was driving from Kuala Lumpur when he was believed to have lost control of the wheel and crashed into the road divider before skidding into the lane of an Toyota Estima car, which was also coming from Kuala Lumpur.

“The driver of the Toyota Estima could not brake in time and crashed into the Proton Iwara before dragging it for about 100 metres.

“The impact caused the Proton Iswara to split into two and then caught fire, while the Toyota Estima was  seriously damaged and also caught fire,” he said when contacted here today.

However, he said the driver of the Toyota Estima and two passengers in the car  managed to get out of the vehicle in time and were given out-patient treatment at the Kampar Hospital.

The body of the Proton Iswara driver was sent to Tapah Hospital for post mortem, he added.

Meanwhile Tapah Fire and Rescue operations chief Tarmizi Rashid said firemen were sent to the crash scene after receiving a call about 3.30 am and on arrival saw two cars on fire.

“Both the cars were 80 per cent burnt, but we managed to douse the flame and extricate the victim from the wreckage,” he added. – BERNAMA
