PAGOH: Malaysians who are involved in the Islamic State (IS) militant group are those who lack of religious knowledge as what the group is fighting for is against the teaching of Islam, said Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh.
He said all the information that IS spread to its followers through the social media are without any validity and are being used to influence the youths all over the world.
“I was shocked when a 14-year-old girl was detained for trying to join IS in Syria because in my opinion, she does not know what she was getting into by going to the country.
“I don’t think she knows what she is fighting for. She does not even know about the country that she is going to,” said Mohmad.
He said those who had intended to join the IS in Syria lack religious knowledge and are susceptible to influence.
“IS followers were told that they were there to uphold Islam but in actual fact, they did not realised that they are getting themselves involved with extremism, which is not part of Islamic teachings,” said Mohmad.-NST
