KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian quran reciters, Abdullah Fahmi Che Nor and Suhailah Zulkifly were declared champions in their respective categories at the 60th International Quran Reciting and Memorisation Competition at the PWTC here tonight.
They each took home gold pieces worth RM70,000, RM40,000 in cash and a challenge trophy.
Abdullah Fahmi scored 92.09 per cent while Suhailah scored 92.05 per cent.
Meanwhile, Iran’s male reciter Mokhtar Deghan Estajroudi and his female counterpart, Khamisatudduha Abdul Wahab from Indonesia emerged runners-up, entitling them to RM30,000 in cash each.
Winning third place in the Male and Female categories were Salah Eddine Haissam of Algeria and Widadul Wahidah Mahamod from Singapore who took home RM20,000 each. For the Quranic Memorisation (Men’s category), Kolim Siddiqee of Bangladesh emerged champion, Waleed Hamad Mohamed Ahmed Almarzooqi (United Arab Emirates) was second and Muzmil Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed (Sudan) came in third.
The champion in the Women’s Memorisation category was Bilghiss Dar from Mauritania. In second place was Malaysian, Siti Nadhirah Mohd Shafie while Ashura Amani Lilanga (Tanzania) emerged third.
The champion in the Quranic Memorisation Category received gold worth RM50,000, RM25,000 in cash and a challenge trophy while the runner-up and third placing each took home RM20,000 and RM15,000, respectively.
