PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Students Association in France says no local students have been harmed by the deadly terror attack in Nice.
The association confirmed this in a posting on its Facebook page, MASAFrance, following the Thursday night carnage that left at least 80 people dead.
“We, the Malaysian students in France, are truly devastated to learn about the recent attack in Nice on Bastille Day.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of all the victims. It is safe to say that none of the Malaysian students were harmed during this incident,” it said.
The Foreign Ministry has yet to issue an official statement on whether any Malaysians were involved in the tragedy.
The Bastille Day celebrations in the French city of Nice ended in blood and tears after the senseless attack, when a large white truck ploughed roughly 2km into a crowd gathered at the Promenade des Anglais beachfront to catch the national day fireworks.
Local officials found guns and grenades in the truck, with witnesses reporting an exchange of gunfire shortly before the driver of the truck was shot dead.
