KEPALA BATAS – The police detained an Indonesian woman last Thursday, a day after she was alleged to have physically abused her one-year-old son at their home in Kampung Paya Lahar Kepah here.
The victim had sustained severe head injuries and bruises on the body.
Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) police chief, ACP Noorzainy Mohd Nor said the 26-year-old suspect was facilitating investigations into the alleged torture in the 4.30pm incident.
He said a medical examination revealed there were several old and new bruises on the child’s body, namely the chest, left leg and below the eyes.
He added that the suspect and her husband, who was a local, brought their child who was unconscious to the Kepala Batas Hospital (HKB) here on the day of the alleged incident.
“The woman claimed her son had fallen while playing and hit his forehead on the living room floor before losing consciousness,” Noorzainy said here yesterday.
The police chief said that according to a child specialist at HKB, the injuries were from a blunt trauma against the forehead and right cheek suspected to have caused brain haemorrhage.
“The doctor believes that the injuries including multiple bruises of different colours on the body of the victim was deliberately inflicted and not accidental.”
The victim has since been transferred to the Penang Hospital and is reported to be in coma. – Bernama
