PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia, the host of the 11th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC), has set 15 gold medals at the biennial contest to be held from Sept 24 to 26 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Sedang (MAEPS).
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said through the target set, Malaysia was expected to soar as the champion of the ASC at home ground.
He said 25 skills would be contested during the 2016 ASC, including aircaft maintenance, automobile technology, beauty therapy and bricklaying.
“A total of nine ASEAN countries, including Malaysia with 266 participants under aged 22 will participate in the competition,” he told the media after officiating at the flag-off of the ASC Promotion and 2016 National Skills Expo and Carnival (KEKK) here today.
Riot said 2016 KEKK, which has a variety of programmes such as skills demonstrations, National Robot Challenge 2016, Job Fair dan Auto Show, would be held at the same venue as 2016 ASC to enliven the ASC.
He said 100,000 visitors were expected to attend the event.
It is the best platform for youths chosen in the competition to strive for excellence so as to be selected to the World Skill Competition in Abu Dhabi next year, he added. – BERNAMA
