MELAKA – Malaysia hope to make it to the final of the Istaf Super Series 2014-2015 that kicks off at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh, Thursday.
National coach Abdul Talib Ahmad said the squad had undergone intensive training for 10 days in Penang to prepare for the second series of the Istaf Super Series.
“The training in Penang has boosted confidence and team work,” he told reporters in conjunction with the launch of the tournament, here yesterday in the presence of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) president Datuk Ahmad Ismail.
The four-day tournament that will feature nine countries will be opened by Melaka Yang Dipertua Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
In the men’s category, defending champion Thailand are drawn in Group A with Japan, South Korea and Myanmar while Malaysia who finished as the runner-up in the first series are in Group B with Singapore, China and Indonesia.
In the women’s category, Malaysia face South Korea and Vietnam in Group A while Group B comprise champion Thailand, Japan and Myanmar.
In the first series held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, last November, Thailand emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories after beating Malaysia and Vietnam, respectively. – Bernama
