KUALA LUMPUR – Singapore club side Lions XII kicked off their Super League campaign in style by gunning down Police (PDRM) 5-3 in a Super League match at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore, last night.
Lions XII the 2013 champion scored through Gabriel Quak Jun Yi (22nd min), Muhammad Faris Ramli (45th min), Muhammad Izzdin Shafiq Yacob (48th min), Muhammad Hafiz Abu Sujad (56th) and Sahil Suhaimi (67th min).
PDRM, making their debut in the Super League, scored all three goals through their import from Mali, Dramane Traore in the (69th min penalty), 80th and 89th minutes.
Kelantan, despite being reduced to 10-man in the second half, scored a 2-0 victory over Armed Forces (ATM) at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Seremban with goals coming from Mohd Noor Hazrul Mustafa (13th min) and Erwin Carrillo (61st min).
Since Kelantan had made all three substitutions, they were forced to play with 10-man when Brendan Gan was injured.
Terengganu meanwhile, gave Selangor’s new team management, headed by Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, a bad start after walking out with a 2-0 victory at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
Ismail Faruqi Ashari gave Terengganu a flying start in the 37th minute before Argentine import Gustavo Fabian Lopez made sure of all three points with the second goal in the 72nd minute.
Perak also started their Super League campaign on a positive note by beating Sime Darby FC 2-0 at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh through goals from Muhammmad Nurridzuan Abu Hassan (30th min) and Nam Kung Woong (85th min).
Sime Darby had only itself to blame for the defeat since skipper Ivan Dragicevic was given the marching order in the 57th minute for a second bookable offence.
At the Selayang Stadium, Selangor last year’s Premier League runner-up Felda United shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw against Sarawak.
Sarawak scored through a 13th minute strike by Billy Mehmet Osman while Hairol Mokhtar (76th min) and Shahrol Saperi (90th min) added the second and third while Felda’s goals came through Bojan Miladinovic (30th min), Makeche Ndumba (48th min) and Edward Junior Wilson (85th min).
Last Saturday, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) had beaten Pahang 2-0 to win the Charity Shield and earn three points at the Larkin Stadium in Johor. – Bernama
