KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia opened their campaign in the ISTAF Super Series in style by beating Japan 2-0 in a Group A match at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, yesterday.
In the match that was telecast live on Istaf’s www.sepaktakraw.org website, Mohd Syahir Rosdi, Syahreen Qamar Salehan and Khairol Zaman Hamir Akhbar beat Masahiro Yamada, Ikki Mito and Toshitaka Naito 21-10, 21-16.
It was the second defeat for Japan who had earlier lost 0-2 to Singapore while Malaysia take on Singapore in their next match today and complete their Group A fixture against South Korea.
Today will also see the women’s squad in action against Indonesia in a Group A match.
The top two teams in each group move into the semifinals. – Bernama
