THE Malaysian para cyclists who were training for the upcoming 9th ASEAN Para Games were hit by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run accident somewhere along the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) highway this morning.
In a series of pictures and a video uploaded by Syed Mubarak Ali on Facebook, some of the cyclists were lying on the road and assisted by rescuers who came to their aid.
Ambulances were dispatched to transport the four injured cyclists Nor Rizuan Zainal, 31, Khairul Azwan Wahab, 25, Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, 23, and Nur Syafiq, 19.
Malaysian Digest contacted Hospital Sungai Buloh but they could not comment on the condition of the cyclists.
However NST reports, all four cyclists sustained broken limbs as a result of the accident.
The accident occurred at a crucial time for the cyclists, as the 9th ASEAN Para Games will be held from September 17 to 23 in Kuala Lumpur, which left many netizens angered by the irresponsible driver.
According to the team’s coach Johari Nayan who was also hit in the incident, a black Hilux hit them and he was left unconscious.
“The next thing I knew, I was already lying on the road, with injuries on my body and legs.
“I saw a black Hilux but the driver left us there as we waited for help to come,” he told NST.
