BURIRAM – Malaysia’s campaign in the Asian Cup Qualifier is nearing an end after going down tamely to the North Korea 1-4 in a one-sided affair at the i-mobile Stadium in Buriram here last night.
Once the match got underway, it was the North Koreans who proved to be more organised and prepared for the match as they easily penetrated Malaysia’s defence.
Jorn Andersen’s charges got their first goal in the 10th minute courtesy of a penalty when Fadhli Shas, who was handed the captaincy in tonight’s match handled the ball inside the box following an attack by a North Korean player.
Referee Fahad Adwan Almirdasi from Saudi Arabia did not hesitate to award the penalty, which Pak Kwang Ryong coolly slotted home, far from the outstrecthed arms of goalkeeper, Muhammad Hafizul Hakim.
Malaysia staged it first dangerous foray into its rival’s territory when Wan Zack Haikal made a darting run in the middle of the field, but his shot went wide above the post. – Bernama
