KUALA LUMPUR – The Agriculture and Agro-based Ministry will host the inaugural international food exhibition, Malaysia Food Festival 2017 from Sept 28 to oct 1 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).
Its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said 850 exhibitors from within and outside the country will attend the biggest food exhibition.
“This festival is an expo of food from throughout the country which will highlight the diversity in food products and is also being hosted in appreciation of the community’s efforts behind the food industry in Malaysia.
“Through this festival, people will be able to explore the production and presentation of food in Malaysia,” he said after officiating the ministry’s pavillion at the Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention here today.
He said the exhibition at the food festival would showcase elements of safe and healthy food production, food prpeparation through food demonstration by top chefs, packaging technology and agrotourism experience.
Among the programmes at the festival to be held in conjunction with the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day are agrotechnology exhibition, sales, seminars, workshops and ‘Rhythm of the Farmers’ concert.
Asked on the discovery of containers of frozen chicken wings disposed by the authorities in Bukit Aup, Sibu, Sarawak, Ahmad Shabery said he had contacted Sarawak Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas to get further details.
“I was in touch with the minister (Uggah) and will investigate the matter after getting more information,” he said.
Yesterday it was reported in the media that some residents in Bukit Aup had gone to the dumping area and dug up the site where several of these containers were disposed and buried by the authorities on Friday. – BERNAMA
