KUALA LUMPUR – Harimau Muda C ended their challenge in the fourth place in the Asean Football Federation Under-19 championships after losing 2-3 on penalty kicks to host, Laos for the third/fourth placing decider at Laos National Stadium, Vientiane, Laos Friday.
The match was decided on penalty kicks after the two teams were tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.
In the game, Laos went ahead via Otthana in the 84th minute before Syamer Kutty Abba slotted the equaliser one minute of the match ended.
Coach Hassan Sazali Mohd Waras praised his boys for their performance in fighting for a draw after trailing 0-1 to the host.
“The loss via penalty kicks was disappointing,” said Hassan Sazali who was quoted in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) website www.fam.org.my.
Earlier Malaysia emerged as runners-up in group B behind Vietnam after collecting seven points with two wins, one draw and one loss.
Harimau Muda C defeated Timor Leste 2-1 in their opening match on Aug 23 before blasting Singapore 4-0, two days later.
Malaysia drew 0-0 with Vietnam on Aug 27 before losing 0-1 to Myanmar two days later but in the semi-final, they were however thrashed 0-5 by Thailand.
Harimau Muda C is scheduled to play in the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 qualifying round in China from Oct 2 to 6.
Malaysia have been draw into group I with Macau, North Korea and China as host.
