KUALA LUMPUR – Terengganu will lose the services of national player Norshahrul Idlan Talaha in their Malaysia Cup campaign against Kedah today following his five-match suspension by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
Norshahrul Idlan, better known as Mat Yo, was penalised for deliberately using stepping on the leg of Kedah player Osman Yusof for which he was given the red card in a Malaysia Cup match at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar on Sept 18. Terengganu lost 0-5.
“An FAM Disciplinary Committee Meeting on Oct 15 decided to suspend him for five matches and fined him RM2,500.
“The suspension affects Terengganu’s Malaysia Cup outing against Kedah at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Gong Badak tomorrow, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) II at Pasir Gudang Stadium on Oct 27 and against Lions XII at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium on Oct 31,” said an FAM statement yesterday.
Apart from that, Mat Yo also served automatic suspension in the Malaysia Cup match against Lions XII at Jalan Besar Stadium on Sept 26 while Mat Yo’s remaining automatic suspension will be brought to the next official match after the Malaysia Cup group competition ends.
FAM said he was also given a serious warning and heavier penalty will be meted out if the same offence is repeated.
Terengganu are now at the bottom of Group A with one point after a goalless draw with JDT II, 0-5 loss to Kedah and 2-3 loss to Lions XII.
