KUNSHAN: Malaysia went through some anxious moments before beating Taiwan 3-1 to reach the Thomas Cup semi-finals at the Kunshan Sports Center Gymnasium.
Lee Chong Wei gave Malaysia a flying start with a 21-18, 21-18 win over Chou Tien-chen but the momentum came to a halt after Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong stumbled 21-16, 19-21, 19-21 to Lee Sheng-mu-Tsai Chia-hsin.
However, a spirited Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin rose to the occasion to put Malaysia back in the picture with a superb 21-8, 21-13 win over Hsu Jen-hao.
Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong made amends for their sluggish display in Malaysia’s opening Group C tie on Sunday by handing Malaysia the winning point.
The former All-England champions edged Chen Hung-ling-Wang Chi-lin 21-16, 22-20 in the second doubles match.
Malaysia now will take on either defending champions Japan or Denmark in the semi-finals on Friday.
