MELAKA – The peace and harmony enjoyed by Melaka and Malaysia on the whole cannot last without continuous efforts to preserve it.
Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob said the plural society should become an asset to spur progress and maintain the peace and harmony.
“I wish the people will maintain the racial harmony so that Melaka continues to be peaceful,” he said at the investiture ceremony to mark his 77th birthday anniversary celebration here, today.
This year, a total of 760 people will receive Melaka state awards and medals and the first session today saw 35 people receiving their awards.
Among the recipients were Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who received the Darjah Gemilang Seri Melaka (DGSM) which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’ and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim received the Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka (DCSM) which carries the title ‘Datuk Wira’.
Khalil urged the people of Melaka to continue to stand firm behind the state government in order to maintain unity, stability and peace.
He said the state government always ensured that development covered urban and rural areas to ensure that the people benefited from the economic development.
“I also hope that efforts to attract investment in green technology will give positive impact on the economic sustainability of Melaka.”
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Melaka government and Guangdong province (China) will widen market opportunities for both parties. – BERNAMA
