JERANTUT – All UMNO members have been reminded to maintain ‘solid’ unity and to remain loyal to the leader as this will ensure victory in the general election.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said UMNO members should learn from history whereby a country, government or organisation could collapse if ‘liquid’ unity was practised.
“There are only two principles in politics. The first is loyalty to the leader while the second principle is, do not forget the first principle. As such, there is only one principle.
“When the leader gives an order, we follow. Our leader is Najib (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) and when he is facing threats from outside, we do not let our president to face them alone,” he said when opening the Jerantut UMNO division delegates meeting, here today.
The ‘solid’ unity should be maintained at leadership level and the heads of divisions should also always keep in touch with the members at grassroots level.
Ahmad Zahid said UMNO could not afford to practise ‘satay politics’ whereby instigators fan the ‘flames of hate’ as it would destroy unity in the party.
UMNO members need to persevere in their struggle and those who want to improve the party, should do it from within and via proper channels.
Victory in the general election will also benefit the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties because UMNO practises power sharing with the other races, he added. – BERNAMA
