SINGAPORE: A 27-year-old Indonesian maid has been jailed for six weeks here for feeding her employer’s child with milk mixed with her urine.
Ela, who goes by one name, had pleaded guilty to one count of committing mischief at her employer’s home in Pine Close on Oct 16 last year.
A second charge was taken into consideration during sentencing on Monday.
At the time of the offence, she had been working for her 39-year-old male employer, his wife, their two children and his mother for a little over a month.
Investigations showed her employer’s wife had come home on Oct 16 and poured some water from a flask to drink. She took a sip of the water, which she noticed was slightly yellow.
She subsequently showed it to her mother-in-law and her husband, who both took a sip and found that it tasted odd.
Her husband decided to keep the flask in his bedroom to observe the water. The next day, he found that the contents in the flask smelt pungent.
The couple then asked Ela if anything had happened to the water, but she said no.
On Oct 18, the employer found her washing the flask, which she had retrieved from his bedroom. She was taken to the maid agency.
The court heard that some time after noon on Oct 16, Ela had collected some of her urine in a cup and poured some into a bottle.
She also poured some urine into a bottle of milk and gave it to her employer’s son, who was four, to drink.
She emptied the remaining urine into the sink and washed the bottle with soap.
She did it because she wanted to make her employer and his family “listen and be obedient to her”, according to court papers.
She could have been jailed for up to one year and fined for mischief. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
