KUALA LUMPUR – The seat of Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar will be transferred to the Independent Parliament members’ block at the first meeting of the sixth term of the 13th parliament beginning Monday.
Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah said the decision was taken after obtaining the approval from Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
“The Honorable Pokok Sena (Mahfuz) informed the President (Pandikar Amin) that he was no longer a PAS member and asked for a seat transfer.
“And this (transfer of seat) has already been approved by the Speaker. The Speaker has decided on a new seat (arrangement) for the Honorable Pokok Sena in the Independent area,” he told Bernama after a full dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony of the Sixth term of the 13th Parliament here today.
Mahfuz, on Dec 31 last year announced quitting PAS after 34 years with the party because it was said he was no longer in accord with the party leadership, but had yet to decide to join any political party.
Meanwhile, Roosme said the rehearsal today was smooth and the opening of the first meeting of the sixth parliament on Monday was almost 100 per cent completed.
The final meeting before the 14th general election would last for 20 days until April 5.
The opening ceremony of the meeting would be officiated by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at 10 am. – BERNAMA
