KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad “embarrassed himself” by going against the ethics of confidentiality, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
“To me, Dr Mahathir’s has embarrassed himself as he broke personal confidential ethics between individuals who were discussing things not meant for the public,” said Pandikar.
He was responding to a statement from Dr Mahathir, who said on Monday that Pandikar embarrassed him by denying that he was resigning as the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
Pandikar, who held a press conference at his official residence on Tuesday, said that Dr Mahathir had advised him to resign as Speaker instead of discussing his concerns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Maybe, in Dr Mahathir’s excitement, he did not advise me to discuss my problems with Najib, rather, he asked me to resign immediately,” Pandikar said.
He told reporters that he met Dr Mahathir on March 13.
“I admit I poured my heart out to him about my frustrations regarding my duties and responsibilities as the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
“I had also voiced my intention to resign as Speaker at the time,” said Pandikar.-The Star
