MACC Studying Sabah Water Dept’s System, Procedure

in Latest

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is studying the weaknesses in the system and procedure practised by the Sabah Water Department.

In a statement today, MACC said the scrutiny was aimed at enhancing the department’s work process particularly with regard to water infrastructure maintenance.

In so doing, the commission hoped to block any room and opportunity for corruption, misappropriation and abuse of power in the implementation of the department’s projects.

MACC will find the source and recommend proposals and advice on measures to rectify the weaknesses.

In October, the commission detained the department’s director and deputy director as well as 23 engineers and technicians to facilitate investigations involving misuse of project funds.

A special team led by MACC’s Inspection and Consultancy Division was set up for the purpose as provided for under Section 7(c), (d) and (e) of the MACC Act 2009.

MACC hoped other agencies would cooperate with it and avoid committing graft, power abuse and misappropriation of public funds. – BERNAMA
