BERA – The investigation into the case of misappropriation of a RM180 million allocation involving a senior leader of an opposition party in Sabah by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should not be described as politically motivated.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he was confident that the MACC would carry out its duties transparently and without the intervention of outsiders or influenced by any political party.
“I’m confident that the MACC and the police are professionals,” he told a press conference after launching the Pahang Pensioners Tour 2017 at Bera Rakan Muda Complex, here today.
Three people including an opposition party leader were detained to aid investigation into the misappropriation of allocation for a rural project in Sabah by a ministry official, who conspired with 10 companies.
Ismail Sabri added that the incident happened in 2009, which was way before he was appointed as the Rural Development Minister on July 31, 2015.
He reiterated that the ministry would give full cooperation to the MACC and confirmed that the commission had taken some related documents from the ministry’s office. – BERNAMA
