JOHOR BARU – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a police lance corporal for allegedly accepting a RM700 bribe from a contractor.
The 28-year-old man, who is attached to the Pagoh police station, had received the cash, on a monthly basis, amounting to RM700 since November last year.
Initial investigations revealed that the bribe was an inducement to not take action against the contractor who hired foreign labourers without work permits to carry construction works at around Pekan Pagoh.
Batu Pahat MACC detained the suspect at a restaurant along Jalan Abdullah in Muar at around 3pm on Tuesday (Feb 6).
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a fine of five times the bribe amount, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, or a jail term not more than 20 years.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would be brought to Batu Pahat court to be remanded on Wednesday (Feb 7). – The Star Online
