THE actress known worldwide as the star of “Xena: Warrior Princess” is joining the WGN America series, along with star Stuart Townsend (“XIII,” “Betrayal”).
Recently seen on “Parks and Recreation,” Lucy Lawless (pix) continues to line up new small screen appearances.
After a stint on the second season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the Kiwi actress will head to the set of “Salem.”
She will play the Countess Marburg, one of the last survivors of an ancient line of German witches.
Stuart Townsend, meanwhile, will play the aristocrat Samuel Wainwright, a doctor interested in unraveling the mysteries of Salem while protecting his own secrets.
Both characters will recur throughout the season’s 13 episodes.
Two other newcomers have also joined the fantasy drama’s next season: Joe Doyle as Baron Sebastian Marburg, son of the Countess, and Oliver Bell as Mary’s young son, a character already introduced in the final episode of last season.
“Salem” offers a new perspective on the witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts town during the 17th century, and which led to the imprisonment and execution of several dozen individuals. Fantasy elements and an engrossing love story bring additional drama to the tale.
WGN America will premiere the second season this April. – AFP RelaxNews
