PADANG RENGAS – The principle of loyalty for UMNO should be instilled among the party leaders themselves so that they remain loyal even when they no longer hold any post in the party.
UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the support from grassroot members to the party and the party leadership was strong.
“The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) remains in power because of the loyalty of UMNO members. I believe the loyalty of the grassroot members is very strong, but this (loyalty) matter should also be reminded to the (party) leaders.
“Many who betrayed the party now are (former) UMNO leaders themselves, like Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz,” he added.
He told this to reporters after the opening of the Padang Rengas UMNO divisional delegates meeting by the party’s Puteri leader Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin here today.
Asked on the formation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) by Muhyiddin, Mohamed Nazri, who is Tourism and Culture Minister, said the move actually gave a positive impact on Barisan Nasional (BN).
“I have a different view. Form as many new parties possible, these parties will join as opposition parties and when election time comes, they will split the votes of the opposition because they will be fighting one another to contest for seats, and this gives an edge to BN,” he added.
Last Tuesday, Muhyiddin submitted an application to register the new party at the Registrar of Societies office in Putrajaya.
Meanwhile, Mas Ermieyati said Puteri UMNO would continue to get close to the young people to get them to join in the UMNO struggle.
“Most important is we do not want them to be influenced by the social media. We want them to realise that only UMNO and BN can help them,” she added. – BERNAMA
