Lorry Driver Pleads Not Guilty To Reckless Driving

KLUANG – A lorry driver was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with reckless driving that resulted in a six-vehicle collision which killed a six-month-old boy last Saturday.

However, Mohd Rizal Ahmad, 33, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof.

He was charged with driving the lorry in a reckless manner and causing the road accident in which Nur Muhris Anas Anuar, who was travelling in one of the vehicles, was killed at Kilometer 55.8 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing last Jan 16.

The charge, under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, carries a maximum imprisonment for 10 years and fine of up to RM20,000, if found guilty.

Nuruhuda set bail at RM6,500 in one surety and fixed March 10 for mention.
