KUANTAN – A lorry driver died after he was thrown out into the middle of the road when his vehicle crashed into a pedestrian making a call by the roadside yesterday.
Lipis police chief Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said in the incident at Kilometre 7, Jalan Lipis-Benta at 10.15pm last night, lorry driver, Salehuddin Jalil, 46, died of severe head injuries.
The accident also caused pedestrian, Samsul Anuar Che Muhammad, 34, from Tumpat, Kelantan to be seriously injured on the left leg, he added.
“The dead victim who was on his way home in Kuala Lanar, Lipis after work in Raub, was believed to be unaware of the pedestrian as the road was dark.
“In trying to avoid the pedestrian, the lorry driver swerved his vehicle, causing him to be thrown into the middle of road and was run over by another vehicle,” he told reporters here today.
Azry Akmar said the body of the victim was sent to Lipis Hospital for post-mortem while the pedestrian was also sent to the same hospital for treatment. – BERNAMA
