KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver was fined RM8,500 on Tuesday after a magistrate’s court found him guilty of molesting a salesgirl.
Magistrate Saifulakmal Said said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case against S. Joshua, 27.
The father of three had been accused of groping the 38-year-old salesgirl’s breast near an autopay machine at a supermarket in Brickfields here on July 5 last year at about 11.40am.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging the woman’s modesty.
Saifulakmal rejected an application by Joshua’s lawyer R. Murugan for a stay, saying he could file an appeal if he was not satisfied.
DPP Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry urged the court to impose a harsh sentence because it was a serious offence.
Four prosecution witnesses and two defence witnesses testified in the trial which began on Oct 6 last year.
