KUANTAN – An 18-year-old student’s life was cut short by the alleged reckless action of a lorry driver to beat the red light at the traffic light junction at Simpang Mentiga, Kilometer 4, Jalan Pekan-Kuantan near here yesterday.
Pekan District police chief Supt Amran Sidek said in the 4.40 pm incident, Mohamad Adib Jasni, a student of Kuliah Sultan Abu Bakar was riding pillion on the motorcycle of his brother Mohamad Alif, 21.
“The lorry which was heading to Pekan from Kuantan was believed to have driven through the red light and hit the motorcycle which was cornering into Simpang Mentiga.
“According to a witness, the victims’ motorcycle was the second vehicle after another car to turn at the corner,” he told reporters here today.
He said Mohamad Adib died at the scene after being dragged by the lorry, while Mohamad Alif sustained leg injuries and was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here.
Amran said the lorry driver aged 45 was unhurt and detained for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
