SEPANG – Ducati Team speed demon Jorge Lorenzo completed the first 2018 MotoGP pre-season winter test on a high note after smashing the lap record to be the quickest of all on the final day at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) today.
Lorenzo, 30, who has five world champion titles including three in the premier class category, showcased a prominent ride in the hot weather to blaze the dry track with a time of one minute and 58.830 seconds on his 21st of 48 laps, a new lap record on two wheels at SIC.
Repsol Honda Team rider, Dani Pedrosa came in second place with a time of 1:59.009s after the 32-year-old Spaniard became the only rider who didn’t improve in yesterday’s test, following his fastest time set to top the timesheet on Sunday.
Cal Crutchlow of LCR Honda Castrol settled in third place after clocking 1:59.052s while Lorenzo’s teammate, Andrea Dovizioso of Italy clocked 1:59.169s to come in fourth.
Reigning champion, Marc Marques of Repsol Honda Team who was crowned 2017 champion, thus retaining the title he won in 2016, only managed to settle for seventh place after clocking 1:59.382s.
Meanwhile, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP dynamic duo Maverick Vinales and nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi who finished one-two yesterday, failed to repeat their performance as they ended today’s session in 18th and eight place respectively.
Vinales set 2:00.547s while Rossi clocked 1:59.449s.
The second round of testing will be held at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand from Feb 16-18 before the pre-season testing is completed at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar from March 1-3.
