KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia Selection XI beefed up with five foreign players showcased a sizzling display as they held English Premier League (EPL) side Liverpool FC to a 1-1 in an entertaining friendly match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, here, Friday night.
PKNS FC striker, Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh shocked the Reds as he drew first blood in the 12th minute with a cool finish which was beyond the reach of Liverpool FC reserve goalkeeper, Adam Bogdan.
Stung by the goal, Liverpool reorganised their tactical approach with continuous attacks against the home side and were rewarded with the equaliser in the 28th minute through winger, Jordon Ibe.
The 19-year old made a solo effort after receiving a pass from his teammate before unleasing a shot into the top right corner of the home side’s goalto send almost 50,000 odds fans into frenzy.
After the break, Liverpool FC continued their ferocious attacks forcing Malaysia Selection XI custodian, Mohd Khairul Azhan Mohd Khalid to works extra hard to stop The Reds’ players.
The home side almost grabbed the winning goal but Norshahrul Idlan Talaha’s effort in the dying minutes of the match went wide before the final whistle from referee, Nagor Amir Noor Mohamed.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan presented the trophy to the joint champions.
The Merseyside club started their pre-season tour by gunning down Thai All- Stars 4-0 in Bangkok on July 14 before defeating A-League sides, Brisbane Roar 2-1 on Friday and Adelaide United 2-0 Monday night in Australia.
The Reds will wrap up their pre-season tour against Finnish side, HJK Helsinki on Aug 1 at the 10,770-capacity Sonera Stadium in Helsinki, Finland.
