KUALA LUMPUR – Lions XII beat Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) 2-0 in the first FA Cup quarter-final match at Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore tonight.
The hosts opened scoring in the 5th minute when Khairul Amri Kamal collected a pass from Faritz Hameed and beat JDT II goalkeeper Mohd Anis Faron.
The first half ended 1-0.
JDT II came close to scoring when Akram Mahinan (67th minute) and Shahril Ishak (70th minute) spurned their chances.
The search for the equaliser left JDT II with ten players after Baihakki Khaizan was red-carded in the 81st minute for a foul on a Lions XII player.
Lions XII took advantage of the extra man by scoring the second goal via substitute player Christopher Van Huizen in the final minute.
Lions XII will play JDT II in the second leg match on April 22 at Pasir Gudang Stadium in Johor.
