KUALA LUMPUR – In conjunction with the National Month celebrations throughout the month of August, people have been urged to show more patriotism by flying the Jalur Gemilang (national flag).
When making the call, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh Said Keruak said the activity of flying the national flag was more visible in rural areas compared to the cities.
“We need the cooperation of all parties. The public needs to be aware of why we celebrate independence. It is important to show our loyalty and fly the flag.
“I hope that individuals and the private sector can cooperate. The government can provide information, give encouragement, but what is important is the cooperation of the people,” he told reporters after joining the ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ cycling event in conjunction with the National Month celebrations here, today.
The National Month events are held throughout August in conjunction with the National Day, celebrating the country’s independence on Aug 31.
Also present were the the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) executive director (Planning) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd.
The event organised by DBKL was held together with the ‘KL Car Free Morning’ programme, which was held on the first and third Sunday’s of each month.
Commenting on today’s programme, Mohd Salleh said besides knitting the ties of kinship and multi-ethnic community, it also contributed to the formation of a healthy nation.
“The participation is very encouraging. In addition to exercise, this programme also instills a spirit of unity. We can see the unity and patriotism of the participants who together, fly the Jalur Gemilang,” he said.
He also hoped that other district councils and city halls could emulate DBKL in organizing such programmes in the future. – BERNAMA
