SEREMBAN: Lenggeng assemblyman Datuk Ishak Ismail has been declared a bankrupt by the High Court here.
The 64-year-old Barisan Nasional wakil rakyat was declared broke by the court’s senior assistant registrar on March 18 after he failed to service a loan from businessman Datuk Misran Sukadi.
When contacted, the third term assemblyman confirmed this.
However, Ishak said he was only served the court order on April 27.
“My lawyer has submitted an application to set this aside and the matter will be heard at the High Court on Thursday,” he said adding that he was declared a bankrupt as he had stood guarantor for a contractor who took a loan from Misran.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who is also State Umno chief said that Ishak’s status as an assemblyman remains until his appeal is heard.-The Star
