KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actress Neng Yatimah has been in frail condition since the death of her son-in-law, actor Datuk Mustapha Maarof last year.

The actress, whose real name is Buntat Ahmad, has been afflicted with heart problem and colon cancer.

Currently, the 91-year-old is under the care of a relative, Isa Sawi, in Singapore.

Her granddaughter Azlynna said after the veteran actress was diagnosed with cancer, the latter received treatment at a hospital, but after a while, she refused to undergo follow-up treatment.

“Grandma does not want to feel the pain of a follow-up treatment.

“She wants to spend her last days in Singapore and when she dies, she wants to be buried in the republic, just like her late husband, Jasni Ahmad,” she told Bernama.

Neng Yatimah’s daughter and Mustapha’s wife, the late actress Roseyatimah passed away 28 years ago in 1987.

Azlynna said her grandmother was very close to her late father, and her condition took a turn for the worse after Mustapha passed away.

“Although our family has repeatedly asked her to stay in Malaysia, she refused, saying she wants to spend the rest of her life in Singapore.

“My father used to send her money during Ramadan,” she said.

Neng Yatimah was famous for her roles in Malay films in the 1950s and 1960s.

Air Mata Duyung, Jiran Sekampung, Laila Majnun, Seri Mersing, Racun Dunia and Mama oh Mama were among her more well-known movies.-The Star
