JOHOR BAHRU – Newly appointed National coach Nelo Vingada failed to start on a winning note after Lebanon scored an injury time goal to emerge 2-1 winners over Malaysia in a 2019 Asia Cup qualifying Group B match at the Tan Sri Dato Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, here tonight.
Lebanon’s skillful midfielder Rabih Ataya was the toast of his team when he struck the winner well into injury time of the second half to ensure the victory after the visitors had trailed for 79 minutes of the match.
Earlier, Ataya had struck the equaliser with a deceiving shot that gave Khairulazhan Mohd Khalid no chance in the 79th minute.
Malaysia had only themselves to blame for the defeat after failing to tighten the loose ends late into the match after having taken the lead in the first half.
Though the Lebanese set a fast and furious pace, it was Malaysia who were dominating possession in the first half and took a deserving lead in the 42nd minute through Mahalli Jasuli’s strike.
With the win, Lebanon moved to the top of Group B with six points after having beaten Hong Kong in their first match. – BERNAMA
