Lazada Aims To Triple Sales During 6th Birthday Festival

PETALING JAYA — Lazada Malaysia expects sales to triple during its three-day birthday festival, beginning April 25, with the roll-out of new innovations to incorporate the best features to online shopping.

Lazada Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Christophe Lejeune said the shopping platform, one of the most popular e-commerce sites, has launched six new features including full personalisation, chat now, cashback with Lazada e-wallet and shake for deals.

“We want to continue to accelerate the online shopping platform for the customers, to make shopping very easy while passing on the savings to them,” he told reporters here today.

Lejeune said the application (app) had been downloaded by more than seven million people in the country as most Malaysians are now opting to use their smartphones as their primary shopping tool.

Despite having introduced many new product categories, he said the group acknowledged that there was still massive room to grow.

Among the categories that are available on the app are fashion, electronics, baby products as well as home and lifestyle products.

It recently introduced new categories — insurance and mobile top-up.

He added that Lazada hoped to have 100,000 microsellers by year-end from the current 30,000.

It was reported earlier that Lazada Malaysia together with the Lazada Group has raked in RM1.02 billion in gross merchandise value during the 12.12 grand finale sale which was held alongside its online revolution campaign.

According to Lazada Malaysia, the sales were more than double the number achieved in the previous year and surpassed the 11.11 record sales of RM501 million.

As for the Malaysian market, it broke the sales record with over RM100 million worth of products sold during the 11.11 Single’s Day held in November last year. — BERNAMA
