KUALA LUMPUR – A 20-year-old law student was injured after an attempted snatch theft at Jalan Tun Sambanthan here.
In the 12.20pm incident on Friday, the private college student was waiting for a taxi when two men riding a motorcycle approached her near a church.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the men then tried to snatch the victimâ€™s handbag but failed, causing her to trip and hit her head on a pavement.
â€œThe victim thought the duo fled after their failed attempt but suddenly, another suspect on a motorcycle appeared and quickly grabbed her mobile phone, which was in her hand at the time before escaping,â€ he said, adding that the ordeal was recorded by the churchâ€™s closed-circuit television camera.
ACP Zainol said the victim suffered injuries to her hand, leg, the back of her head, and two broken teeth.
â€œA passer-by sent the victim to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
â€œA police report has also been filed by the victim at the Mantin police station in Negri Sembilan on Saturday.
â€œWe are in the midst of scrutinising the CCTV footage,â€ he said.
The 49-second footage, which has gone viral on social media, has been shared more than 1,700 times with more than 87,000 views.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing injury while committing robbery. – The Star
