LANGKAWI – Langkawi’s first Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) outlet opened here today, offering lower prices for daily essentials made possible by the resort island’s duty-free status and the absorption of transport costs by KR1M operator MRT RETAIL Sdn Bhd.
“The low prices will benefit not only local residents but also tourists,” Kuah State Assemblyman Nor Saidi Nanyan told reporters after opening the KR1M outlet, the 173rd in the country, here today.
He also expressed hope MRT RETAIL would consider opening KR1M outlets in Padang Matsirat and Cenang to enable more people to benefit.
KR1M Northern Region Manager Asrul Affindy Hamidon said for a start, the Langkawi outlet will offer nearly 4,000 items, with the list to be added to based on current demand.
“We are prepared to consider opening more KR1M outlets in Langkawi as our main objective is to help low-income shoppers,” he said. – BERNAMA
