LABUAN – The Labuan Health Department is intensifying its programme to enhance awareness of tuberculosis (TB) among the people, said its director Dr Ismail Ali.
He said it was also conducting an exercise to trace infected people with the cooperation of private clinics.
The number of TB cases in Labuan was 91 so far this year, down from 101 last year, he said.
“Despite a dip in the number of cases this year, the disease must be contained and early prevention and treatment can greatly help the patients,” he told Bernama.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Hilmi Yahaya had said the influx of foreign workers was among the major reasons for the spread of TB in the country.
Labuan, as an oil and gas hub, has a large number of expatriates and foreign workers. – BERNAMA
