Kuching MMEA Helps Send Sick Merchant Ship’s Crew To Hospital

KUCHING – The Kuching Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) today conducted a compassionate operation to save a very sick crew of a merchant ship in the waters off Tanjung Sipang, near here.

Sub-Lieutenant Maritime Muhammad Hainizam Mohd Jamil said MMEA received an emergency call from the captain of the bulk ship Denmark requesting medical aid for the crew. The ship was sailing from South Africa to China.

“The MMEA boat Penggalang sailed for a rendezvous with the ship 18 km from the waters of Tanjung Sipang to take onboard Bentheodore J. Baritugo, 53, a Filipino crew of the ship,” he said here, today.

Muhammad Hainizam said the crew was then taken to the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Jetty Complex, before being sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment at 9am. – BERNAMA
