KUALA KANGSAR: The “goodies†handed out by political parties in the run-up to the by-election are not against election regulations, says Election Commission (EC) member Datuk Abdul Aziz Khalidin.
He said that to date, the commission saw no wrongdoing in the allocations announced for targeted groups and the handing out of supplies like food and sundry items to voters.
“From the EC’s point of view, we do not see any problem with it. There is nothing to suggest they are violating election rules,†he told reporters outside the early voting centre at the police quarters here on Tuesday.
Abdul Aziz was commenting on reports that political parties contesting the by-election were giving out hampers and food items like rice, vegetables and dates when meeting voters.
He added that the campaign period had gone smoothly so far, with no major issues being reported.
A total of 312 early voters are set to cast their ballots on Tuesday, with polling day set for June 18.
