TAIPING – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, participated in the four-cornered sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Cup Golf Championships today at the Taiping Golf & Country Club in Bukit Jana here.
Their Majesties were welcomed on arrival at the club by Kedah Council of Regency member Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah; the Raja Di-Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris; Deputy Chief of Army Lt Gen Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi and Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
They were presented with souvenirs from the Royal Service Corps and Royal Malay Regiment before having breakfast with all the golfers prior to the tee-off.
Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah donated RM2,000 as prize-money for the winning team of the championships. The prize-giving will be held at Wisma Perwira of the Royal Service Corps here tonight.
The championships, organised jointly by the Royal Malay Regiment and the Royal Service Corps, is the sixth in the series. The participants comprise 54 golfers divided into four teams, namely Istana Negara, Regiment 513 of the Territorial Army, Royal Service Corps and Royal Malay Regiment.
The primary objective of the championships, introduced in 2009, is to forge a closer relationship between the institution of the royalty and the military. – BERNAMA
