ALOR SETAR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah today paid his condolence to the family of the late former Speaker of the Kedah State Assembly Datuk Paduka Abdullah Ismail who died Sunday from old age.
He arrived at Abdullah’s home in Jalan Mahkota near here at about 9 am with the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
Also present was the Tunku Panglima Besar Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and wife Datin Seri Hizam Awang Ahmad were also present.
The Sultan spent about 20 minutes at Abdullah’s home where he conveyed his condolences to the family.
Abdullah, 89, died at his home here at about 4.30 pm yesterday.
More popularly known as Datuk Lah Fendi, he held the post of State Assembly Speaker in the 1990s and was a close friend and golf buddy of the Sultan.
Abdullah was also state exco for two terms in the 1990s.
He leaves behind his wife Datin Che Amah Putih, 69, three sons and three daughters, aged between 44 and 60 years.
Abdullah’s remains will be buried at the Kampung Ruat Muslim Cemetery, Yan, at about 11 am today. – BERNAMA
