ALOR SETAR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah graced the finals of the River Sport Festival in Tanjung Chali here today.
The festival, organised in conjunction with His Majesty’s 87th birthday, , saw a crowd of over 3,000 river sport enthusiasts and supporters of the competing teams thronging the banks of Sungai Kedah from 8am.
The Malaysian Armed Forces team headed the boat parade in the opening ceremony, followed by two enforcement boats RH 9 and PSC 49 of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Also taking part were rescue boats from PDRM, Fire and Rescue Department and Malaysian Civil Defence Department.
Also present were Kedah Council of Regency chairman, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehhuddin Sultan Badlishah
and members Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah and Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
The River Sport Festival, which saw boat races encompassing long boats, traditional boats and dragon boats, were divided into more than 10 categories, among which were between government departments/statutory bodies, uniformed bodies, inter-states, state administrative officers/federal, corporate, schools and associations.
His Majesty also handed over the prizes to the winners. – BERNAMA
