Kim Swee Forced To Make Last Minute Changes Before Leaving To Jordan

KUALA LUMPUR – Coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee was forced to make last minute adjustments to his side before leaving to Amman, Jordan tonight for the match against Palestine next Thursday.

Kim Swee was forced to leave behind six players first choice players due to various reasons, and had to send ‘SOS’ to players placed on standby at the eleventh hour to fill the vacant spots.

The side bound to Jordan for the return leg against Palestine in the 2018 World Cup Qualifier/2019 Asia Cup Qualifier will miss defenders Zubir Azmi (Terengganu), Mohd Hafiz Kamal (Pahang), Gary Steven Robbat, S. Kunanlan Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) due to injuries.

“Baddrol Bakhtiar (Kedah) is getting married and Mohammad Azamuddin Akil is expected the arrival of his new baby. Kim Swee had to recall six players who were placed on standby in the list of 23 players.

“The six called up are Azrif Nasrulhaq Badrul Hisham (Selangor), Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim (Harimau Muda B), Redzuan Suhaidi (Penang), Ronny Harun (Sarawak), Ahmad Fakri Saarani (Kelantan) and Fazly Mazlan (JDT),” said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in a statement today.

Baddrol, Azammuddin and Kunanlan together with five others on standby, namely Narridzuan Abu Hassan (Perak), Badrul Hisham Morris (T-Team), Farhan Abu Bakar (Harimau Muda B), Nazrin Nawi and Mahalli Jasuli (JDT) will be asked to report for training once the team arrives from Jordan on Friday.

Striker Mohd Safee Sali who is serving a one match suspension after receiving two yellow cards would also report for training on Friday.

The statement said upon their return from Jordan, the National side will prepare for the match against the United Arab Emirates.

The match against Palestine is being held at the King Hussein Sports City Stadium in Jordan after FIFA decided to host the match in a neutral ground since the scheduled venue, Dura Stadium in Hebron, Palestine was deemed unsafe.

Malaysia lost 0-6 and 0-10 to Palestine and UAE respectively in their first leg matches.
